Awarded ‘Best Cheddar’ at the 2011 Royal Bath & West Show, Westcombe Dairy Cheddar is one of only three officially recognised artisan Somerset cheddars. It has a lovely smooth, nutty caramel taste and a grainy texture with small blue veins. It’s made from unpasteurised milk, which gives it a depth of flavour and you can taste the lush Somerset grass in it too.
Westcombe Dairy Cheddar has also been called ‘Five Mile Cheddar’, because its long flavour means you can still taste it five miles drive from the dairy. As cheesemaker Tom Calver says; ‘every cheese is a work of art’.
What with? This is the cheddar for your cheeseboard, but don’t expect it to last for long. Great with Pickled Onions or Cheeseboard Chutney and a glass of not too heavy red like our Rinascita Chianti.
